Brian Kidd 'had no intention of leaving Manchester City'

Brian Kidd reportedly had no intention of rejoining Man United, a club he spent 10 years with as assistant, after being named as part of Pep Guardiola's coaching team.

Brian Kidd will remain a member of Manchester City's backroom staff under Pep Guardiola, despite suggestions that the former Manchester United assistant was seeking a return to Old Trafford.

It was claimed by The Sun that Kidd had been left in limbo by the arrival of Guardiola, with City's arch-rivals waiting to pounce and bring him back on board nearly two decades after departing.

That does not appear to be the case, however, as the Citizens have now confirmed that the 67-year-old will continue in his position as assistant coach alongside Carles Planchart, Domenec Torrent, Manuel Estiarte, Rodolfo Borrell and Xabier Mancisidor.

Mikel Arteta will also join the revamped behind-the-scenes setup at the Etihad Stadium, having revealed on Sunday that he has retired from football in order to turn his attention towards coaching.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Kidd had no intention of leaving Man City and made it clear at the end of last season that he wanted to work under former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss Guardiola.

Kidd spent 10 years at United in various coaching roles before taking up a position at City in 2009.
