Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag again plays down suggestions that he could become Manchester United's new manager.

Ajax manager Erik ten Hag has once again played down suggestions that he could become Manchester United's new head coach at the end of the 2021-22 campaign.

Ten Hag, alongside Paris Saint-Germain's Mauricio Pochettino, is believed to be the favourite for the role at Old Trafford, with interim head coach Ralf Rangnick set to step aside this summer.

A recent report claimed that the Ajax boss was taking additional English classes ahead of a potential move to Old Trafford in the coming months.

However, speaking ahead of his team's Champions League last-16 second leg with Benfica on Tuesday, Ten Hag played down talk of a switch to Manchester.

"No, that (report) is not true! We (already) talk English at the club because there are a lot of foreign players in Holland and they are already educated in English so (it makes sense)," Ten Hag told BT Sport.

"I do not think that is an issue today, this evening is all about our match. I am focused on that and I do not pay any attention to other subjects. My only focus is Ajax vs Benfica."

Ajax ultimately suffered a 1-0 defeat to Benfica in the second leg of their last-16 clash, which saw the Dutch giants lose 3-2 on aggregate.

Man United, meanwhile, lost 1-0 at home to Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their last-16 tie, with the Red Devils being eliminated courtesy of a 2-1 aggregate defeat.
