Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino reacts to suggestions that his club are in pole position to sign Lionel Messi.

Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino has refused to be drawn on suggestions that his club are in pole position to sign Lionel Messi on a free transfer.

The news that Messi will not be signing a new contract at Barcelona shocked the world of football on Thursday night, and there appears to be no way back for the attacker at Camp Nou.

Manchester City and PSG are two of a select few clubs capable of affording to sign the Argentina international, and it is thought that the French giants are the favourites for his signature.

When questioned on the reports, Pochettino said that the club's sporing director Leonardo and president Nasser Al-Khelaifi are "working hard to improve the team".

"We know what happened yesterday between Messi and Barca, but we are fully focused on beating Troyes. Nasser and Leonardo are working hard to improve the team," Pochettino told reporters.

PSG are currently believed to be working on a new deal for Kylian Mbappe but seemingly believe that they will be able to also place a suitable offer on the table to entice Messi to Paris.
