Half-Time Report: Newcastle United, Manchester City level at half time

Newcastle United remain level with Manchester City following a goalless first half between the two sides in the Capital One Cup.

Newcastle United were unable to break the deadlock during the first half of their Capital One Cup match against Manchester City this evening.

The home side had the first sight of goal, as Shola Ameobi flicked the ball forward into the path of Papiss Cisse, but his lob drifted just wide of the post.

The Magpies continued to create the majority of the chances, and had a further opportunity to break the deadlock on the half-hour mark, when Moussa Sissoko had an effort blocked to Joleon Lescott, before Costel Pantilimon saved the follow up from Ameobi.

Newcastle did manage to find the back of the net three minutes later, when Ameobi volleyed in following a failed shot from Cisse, but the striker was flagged for offside.

The hosts continued to threaten as the half-time whistle approached, winning a corner in stoppage time, but City's defenders were able to get the ball clear.
