Gary Holt expecting to face a driven Rangers side

Holt has overseen three wins and a draw from his four games in charge.

Livingston boss Gary Holt believes his team will take on a Rangers side that mirrors their manager on Sunday.

Holt never got the chance to go toe-to-toe with Light Blues boss Steven Gerrard as a player despite spending a decade south of the border.

He may have missed on taking on the former Liverpool skipper but he knew his game inside out.

And what he has seen so far from Gerrard’s new-look Ibrox side has brought back memories of all the positive traits that made the Anfield midfielder one of the best players of his generation.

Holt told Sky Sports Football: “I think how high-profile a player Stevie was and how driven he was is coming across in his team.

“You can see that. They are driven, they want to succeed, they play at a high tempo and they never give up. Just look at the recent results like the one away in Europa (against Villarreal).

“So it’s something we are going to have to be guarded against but also not be overly worried about it too much because if we do that we’ll not implement our own game, we won’t play, we won’t turn up.

“Yes we’ve identified they are a good side but let’s go show them what we’re about.”

Newly-promoted Livi turned to Holt when Kenny Miller’s stint as player-boss was called to a halt after just seven weeks.

But despite the turmoil caused by that early split, the new man in charge insists things could not have got smoother thanks to the help of the number two he inherited, Davie Martindale.

“It’s been quite seamless so far,” said Holt, who has overseen three wins and a draw with league leaders Hearts from his four games in charge so far. “It’s been well documented what happened before I arrived and there was big turmoil.

“But the only change has been one person out, one person in.

“So there’s not been a whole change in back-room team.

“To be fair, Davie and the staff have made it very easy for me and the transition of coming in. If it wasn’t for them we might not have had the results we’ve had because the work they do behind the scenes makes my job a wee bit easier.”
