Liverpool sporting director, Richard Hughes, reportedly 'likes' Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.
The Reds are looking to add a top striker to their ranks, and they have been linked with moves for Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike.
The Premier League champions have apparently made an approach to sign Isak, while they have given encouragement to move for Ekitike after Eintracht Frankfurt supposedly rejected a mammoth bid from Newcastle United.
At the start of the summer, Liverpool also included players like Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen and Joao Pedro as their list of targets.
According to a report from The Athletic, Hughes also liked Jackson when he was with Bournemouth, and the Senegal international would have been a 'realistic' target for the Reds had he not been a Chelsea player.
Liverpool unlikely to move for Jackson
The 24-year-old striker could drop down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge following the arrivals of Liam Delap and Pedro, but Chelsea are not actively looking to part ways with him.
The Blues value him at around £100m, and not many clubs in the world would be willing to pay that amount.
Journalist Nabil Djellit claimed that Chelsea would be willing to offload Jackson at around £60m, but doubts remain whether Liverpool will be interested in making a move for him, considering there are better options available on the market.
The former Villarreal striker scored 10 goals and provided five assists in 30 Premier League games last season, and he would not be considered an upgrade over Darwin Nunez.
Should Liverpool sell Nunez?
The Uruguayan striker struggled for goals and consistency last season, but he did make some vital contributions for Arne Slot's side.
Nunez is someone who wears his heart on his sleeve, and he could play a key role next season following the tragic death of Diogo Jota.
However, the standards at Liverpool are at the highest level, and seven goals in 47 games in all competitions are simply not good enough from a striker who has been around for three seasons.
The 26-year-old has attracted interest from Saudi Pro League clubs and Napoli, but as of now, Liverpool have not received any acceptable offers for him.
