Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton has confirmed that the club are still interested in signing Liverpool defender Joe Gomez on loan this summer.

The 20-year-old was limited to just three senior appearances for the Reds last season, with a string of serious injuries having plagued his time at Anfield so far.

However, manager Jurgen Klopp is eager to watch the youngster in pre-season training before making any decisions over his future, with doubts remaining over Liverpool's options at centre-back and left-back.

Hughton remains optimistic that his side could land Gomez, though, as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of their first season in the Premier League.

"We've registered our interest but he's not our player. It will be up to Liverpool. I'd like to think we are very much in the running," Hughton told the Brighton Argus.

Bournemouth, Celtic and Huddersfield Town have also been credited with an interest in taking the England Under-21 international on loan.
