When you consider the great strikers Liverpool have had throughout their illustrious history, it speaks volumes for the quality of Fernando Torres that no player has scored 50 league goals for the club in fewer appearances.

The World Cup winner was the darling of Atletico Madrid when he joined Liverpool in 2007, and for four years he was one of the deadliest strikers in world football before his much-publicised £50m move to Chelsea.

Torres immediately settled in the Premier League with 24 goals in 33 outings, becoming the first Liverpool player since Robbie Fowler 12 years previously to score 20 league goals in a season and registering the most prolific debut season from a foreigner in English football history.

It took the Spain international just 84 games to reach 50 goals for the club, including memorable performances against Real Madrid and Manchester United in 2008-09 - a season which saw the Reds amass a club-record 86 points in the Premier League.

Torres's career tailed off somewhat following his move to Chelsea in January 2011, but with 65 goals in just 102 Premier League games and 81 in 142 appearances across all competitions for Liverpool, the Reds had certainly seen the best of the prolific striker.
