Manchester United reportedly step up their pursuit of Real Madrid attacker James Rodriguez after ending their interest in Alvaro Morata.

Manchester United have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of Real Madrid attacker James Rodriguez.

Rodriguez is understood to be eager to leave the Bernabeu this summer in search of more regular first-team football, with a number of Europe's top clubs being credited with an interest.

United are among the frontrunners to secure the signature of the Colombia international, and The Independent claims that the two parties are making progress in their discussions over a possible deal.

Madrid are thought to be holding out for a bid of at least £50m for Rodriguez, who made just 13 league starts as Los Blancos won their first title since 2012 last season.

United have dropped their interest in Rodriguez's Madrid teammate Alvaro Morata having agreed a fee with Everton for Romelu Lukaku, but Jose Mourinho is still looking for further reinforcements this summer.

In addition to Rodriguez, the Red Devils have been linked with moves for Ivan Perisic and Eric Dier.
