The seven-time Wimbledon champion needed less than two hours to dispatch of his opponent, coming through 7-6[3] 6-4 6-4 to set up a fourth-round clash with Grigor Dimitrov.

Federer quickly took control of proceedings by racing into a 4-1 lead with an early break, but Zverev fought back and won the next three games to draw level - inflicting only the second break of the Federer serve this year.

However, the third seed went on to win the tiebreak 7-3 before again breaking early in the second set - this time holding his serve to take it 6-4 in just 35 minutes.

It was a similar story in the final set too, with one break proving to be enough for the 18-time Grand Slam champion as he continued his charge for a first Wimbledon title since 2012.
