Borussia Dortmund's potential move for PSV Eindhoven forward Donyell Malen is reportedly in doubt, as they are struggling to afford the transfer.

The Bundesliga outfit recently agreed to sell winger Jadon Sancho to Manchester United, with the England international set to join for around £73m.

Despite this, Dortmund are unwilling to meet PSV's £26m valuation of Malen, according to Bild, while his agent Mino Raiola is also demanding that his client's wages are tripled to over £5m a year, which the German club are not prepared to pay.

The potential sale of star striker Erling Braut Haaland, however, could help finance a deal for Malen, with the Norwegian linked with a £150m switch to the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Malen, who has also been linked with Liverpool, was part of the Netherlands squad that participated at Euro 2020, but he was unable to get his name on the scoresheet before they were eliminated in the last 16.

The 22-year-old, however, was prolific in the Eredivisie during the 2020-21 campaign, scoring 19 goals and providing eight assists across 32 league appearances.

After such an impressive season at club level, PSV head coach Roger Schmidt has admitted that it will be difficult for the club to keep hold of the forward this summer.
