Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists that he still has "final say" on transfers following the appointment of a sporting director.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that he still has "final say" on transfers, despite the club creating a new sporting director role at Anfield.

Michael Edwards has been promoted to the job after spending the last five years working in various executive roles at the Merseyside outfit.

The 37-year-old will be responsible for player recruitment and transfer negotiations, but Klopp has insisted that he will still have control over the incomings and outgoings.

"The transfer committee is obviously a sensitive thing," Klopp told reporters in Friday's press conference. "I try to understand why it is such a big thing but in my point of view, it is natural.

"When you have the right person, you have to use them in the right way and that is what we have done.
The work with him has been brilliant.

"Transfers will go the same way. The style may be different as whoever brings the player, me, my assistant, the scouting department, we have a lot to talk about. In the end, I will always have the final say. In the future, if transfers go wrong, it is my responsibility."

Liverpool are currently third in the Premier League table, level on 23 points with leaders Manchester City and second placed Arsenal after winning seven, drawing two and losing one of their top-flight fixtures so far.
