Brentford will travel to Anfield on Sunday looking to win their first away game at Liverpool for more than 84 years.

Brentford travel to Anfield on Sunday looking to win their first away game against Liverpool since November 1937.

Meetings between the two sides have been scarce over the years due to them spending long periods at opposite ends of the football pyramid.

The 2021-22 campaign is the first since 1946-47 that they have both been in the same division, and they have met just five times across all competitions since then.

One of those was the reverse fixture in September when Thomas Frank's men held their own in a thrilling 3-3 draw at home, but this will be their first visit to Anfield in any competition since March 1989.

Liverpool have not hosted the Bees in a home league game since October 1946, while their last defeat in such a match came over 84 years ago, when Brentford ran out 4-3 winners in a First Division clash.

Since then, Brentford have lost all five visits to Anfield by an aggregate score of 12-1, while they are winless in their last eight meetings home or away.

Sunday's match will be Brentford's first at Anfield in the Premier League, and they will be looking to emulate Blackpool as the only visiting team from the last 17 to have won their first top-flight game at the stadium.
