Didier Deschamps admits that he is "very satisfied" with France's progress to the knockout stages of the World Cup following Thursday's 1-0 win over Peru.

Didier Deschamps has declared himself "very satisfied" with France's progress to the knockout stages of the World Cup following Thursday's 1-0 victory over Peru.

Kylian Mbappe's first-half strike helped Les Bleus clinch all three points against the resilient Peruvians, whose time in Russia will come to an end following their final Group C game against Australia.

Although France's performance at the Ekaterinburg Arena was a step up from their unremarkable 2-1 win over the Socceroos, the general consensus among fans and pundits is that Les Bleus are yet to convince fully that they are one of the favourites for the title.

"We are in the knockout stages so we are very satisfied," Deschamps told reporters at full time.

"It was tougher in the second period. We played a better game in the first half - it was more fluid and flowing. However, we were solid after the break which helped us get this result.

"The defending doesn't just come from the defence - the attacking players helped the team be more compact. This aided with the recovering of the ball in the first half - less so in the second half."

France finish off their Group C campaign against Denmark next Tuesday at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium.
