France striker Olivier Giroud says that his side "had a lot of fun" in their 5-2 win over Iceland in their Euro 2016 quarter-final meeting at the Stade de France.

France striker Olivier Giroud has claimed that his side "had a lot of fun" playing against Iceland in their Euro 2016 quarter-final meeting at the Stade de France.

The Arsenal forward struck a brace as Les Bleus ran out 5-2 winners against their opponents, with Paul Pogba, Dimitri Payet and Antoine Griezmann also finding the net.

Giroud told BBC Sport after the game in Paris: "We're very pleased, we scored five goals, although we did concede a couple we had a lot of fun and are pleased with our performance. We're going to try and erase a few of these small defensive mistakes, because against Germany we'd pay a heavy price.

"Are we confident? No, because they are the world champions and favourites. But we'd like to write another chapter in French football history.

"We came out fighting right from the outset. That was a little bit where we've been struggling since the start of the tournament."

Paris last won a major international title in 1998, winning the World Cup on their own soil.
