Everton announce the permanent signing of Flamengo midfielder Charly Alcaraz, who becomes David Moyes's first signing of the summer.

Everton have announced the permanent signing of midfielder Carlos Alcaraz from Flamengo.

The 22-year-old - nicknamed 'Charly' - impressed on Merseyside in the second half of the 2024-25 campaign after joining the Toffees on loan on Deadline Day in the winter window.

Everton have now confirmed that they have triggered the option to sign Alcarez on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee when his loan from Brazilian giants Flamengo concludes at the end of June.

It is understood that the Toffees will pay around €15m (£12.6m) for the Argentina Under-23 international, who will put pen to paper on a two-year contract until the summer of 2027.

Alcarez represents the first summer signing made by manager David Moyes since returning to the club in January, and more new arrivals are expected to follow before they embark on a new era at their new home - the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Alcaraz completes permanent move to Everton on two-year deal

Alcaraz chipped in with two goals and three assists for Everton from seven starts and eight substitute outings in the Premier League, helping Moyes's men climb away from the relegation picture and finish 13th in the table.

The tenacious midfielder scored the winning goal in a 2-1 success at Crystal Palace in February before netting the only goal in Everton's narrow 1-0 victory at Newcastle United on the final weekend of the Premier League season earlier this month.

Prior to joining Everton, Alcaraz spent six months at Flamengo and recorded three goals and two assists in 19 matches, lifting the Copa do Brasil in August last year.

Alcarez began his career in his native Argentina with Racing Club before moving to Southampton in January 2023, making his debut for the Saints against Everton at Goodison Park.

His development at St Mary's caught the attention of Italian giants Juventus, who signed him on loan in January 2024, and the midfielder went on to win the Coppa Italia.

Everton have opted to sign Alcaraz permanently at a time when the futures of out-of-contract trio Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Michael Keane and Idrissa Gueye are uncertain.

It is understood that Gueye is close to signing a contract extension with the Toffees, but there have been no indications as to whether Calvert-Lewin or Keane will extend their deals, meaning that they could leave the club for free on June 30.
