Dundee are searching for a new boss after parting company with Neil McCann on Tuesday night.

The Tayside club are bottom of the Ladbrokes Premiership having lost seven of their eight league games and they have also suffered home defeats against both Dunfermline and Ayr in the Betfred Cup.

Here, Press Association Sport looks at some of the candidates for the vacant post.

Jim McIntyre

The former Ross County boss has emerged as a strong frontrunner for the vacant post.

The 46-year-old has plenty of experience from his time as manager at Dunfermline and Queen of the South and he won the Betfred Cup with the Staggies in 2016.

He has been out of work since departing the Highland club in September and was linked with the vacant post at Dundee United which was taken by Robbie Neilson.

Gordon Strachan

It would be a mighty coup for Dundee if they could attract the former Scotland manager, who began his career at Dens Park in the 1970s.

Strachan, 61, has seen it all as boss of Southampton, Coventry, Celtic and Middlesbrough and is now working as a pundit.

After working at national team and at Champions League level with the Hoops, attempting to steer Dundee away from relegation trouble would be an altogether different challenge.

Jim Duffy

The former Dundee defender has had two spells as Dens Park boss.

The Taysiders were in the second tier when Duffy led them to the League Cup final in 1995 where they lost 2-0 to Aberdeen.

In his second spell, he took Dundee to the Scottish Cup final in 2003 only to lose 1-0 to Rangers.

Duffy, who also bossed Falkirk, Hibernian and Clyde among others, was sacked by Morton at the end of last season after failing to make the Premiership play-offs. He has reportedly emerged as a leading candidate for the vacant post at Dumbarton.

Ian McCall

The former Dundee United boss and ex-Dundee player would be a bold choice to replace McCann.

However, McCall, who took over at Ayr United in 2015, is doing a splendid job this season.

His side sit two points clear of Ross County at the top of the Championship with 19 points from eight games.

Kenny Miller

The 38-year-old striker only signed for the Dens Park club at the end of August after a short spell as player/manager at Livingston.

Whether he would want to return to that dual role at Dundee – or indeed give up playing to concentrate on management – is something the Dens Park board and Miller himself would have to consider.

Alan Stubbs

The Englishman recently departed St Mirren after less than three months in the job.

Stubbs guided Hibernian to both major domestic cup finals in 2015/16, losing the League Cup final to Ross County but beating Rangers 3-2 in the Scottish Cup showpiece. It was Hibs’ first win in the tournament since 1902.

Stubbs then left to take charge at Rotherham United but lasted less than two months.
