Celta Vigo travelled to the Estadio Municipal de Riazor on Friday knowing that three points against basement outfit Deportivo La Coruna would have moved them out of the relegation zone.
The first period did not go to plan, however, with Riki opening the scoring for the home side before Iago Aspas saw red for Celta.
Deportivo continued to look the more likely in the second period, with goals from Silvio and Diogo Salomao opening up a three-goal lead. Celta did score a late consolation through Chu-young Park, but it was not enough to stage a comeback.
