Chelsea are reportedly set to reignite their interest in Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez after having a bid rejected in the summer transfer window.

Chelsea are reportedly set to rekindle their interest in Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez.

The Blues attempted to sign Alvarez in the closing days of the summer transfer window, but Ajax were not prepared to sell the Mexico international.

Instead, Chelsea moved to complete a loan deal for Denis Zakaria from Juventus in a bid to strengthen Thomas Tuchel's midfield options.

Following Tuchel's dismissal and the appointment of Graham Potter as Chelsea boss, there were some doubt as to whether the Blues would return to the Alvarez deal.

However, according to football.london, Chelsea are set to reignite their interest in the 24-year-old when the transfer window reopens in January.

With N'Golo Kante and Jorginho out of contract next summer, the Blues are expected to submit another bid for Alvarez, who is keen to move to Stamford Bridge.

Although, the Blues could still face competition for Alvarez's signature, with Liverpool believed to be monitoring the situation.
