Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou hails his team's 'character' and 'resilience' following their crucial 2-1 triumph in the Old Firm derby against Rangers on Sunday.

Celtic head coach Ange Postecoglou has hailed his team's 'character' and 'resilience' following their crucial 2-1 Scottish Premiership triumph in the Old Firm derby against Rangers on Sunday.

After Aaron Ramsey had given the Gers an early lead at Ibrox, strikes from Tom Rogic and Cameron Carter-Vickers turned the game on its head to help the Hoops move six points clear at the top of the table.

Postecoglou believes that the victory against their Glaswegian rivals was a "massive" result in the title race, and he has also praised his side's improvements throughout the season, suggesting that their character to bounce back from a difficult start has been "overlooked".

Speaking to Sky Sports News in his post-match interview, Postecoglou said: "[Today's result was] massive. I'm just really proud of the players.

"It's a difficult place to come to and they got off to a great start and you know in those kind of conditions everything is in their favour, it's going to take a massive effort to turn it around. I thought the boys were brilliant.

"They've had character from day one, that's what I keep saying, it's maybe been the one thing people have maybe overlooked, there is a real steel to this team, there is a resilience.

"We had to be, we lost three games of the first six, we were still putting a team together and the league had already started, but no excuses.

"We wanted to keep pushing on, we had to show that today, Rangers were at it, they put us under pressure, the crowd were behind them, but super proud of our efforts."

Celtic, who have now extended their impressive unbeaten run in the Premiership to 26 matches, will face relegation-threatened St Johnstone in their next league game on Saturday, before renewing their rivalry with Rangers in the Scottish Cup semi-finals on April 17.
