Manuel Neuer to captain Germany at World Cup

Germany name Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer as their captain for the World Cup finals.

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will captain Germany at the World Cup finals.

The world champions confirmed the news on Twitter shortly after announcing their final 23-man squad for the tournament in Russia.

Neuer was named in the 23-man squad after making his comeback from injury during Germany's shock 2-1 defeat to Austria at the weekend.

There were few surprises in the team roster, besides the omission of Manchester City forward Leroy Sane.

Germany will open their 2018 World Cup campaign against Mexico on June 17, before taking on Sweden and South Korea in the group stage of the competition.
