Barcelona announce that they recorded an £86m profit for the last financial year, despite their well-documented issues behind the scenes.

Barcelona have announced that they made a profit of £86m for the last financial year.

The Catalan giants have just endured one of the most eventful summers in their existence with the club needing to significantly boost their financial situation to meet La Liga regulations.

The financial cap which is in place in Spain's top flight meant that Barcelona had to delay registering several of their new signings.

Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie, who had previously been free agents, initially had to bide their time, as did Jules Kounde after Barcelona beat Chelsea for the French defender's signature.

However, as well as being successful in engineering a number of player departures and wage cuts, Barcelona used 'economic levers' to bring a further improvement to their books.

This involves percentages of future television rights and media production unit Barca Studios being sold, generating the level of funds that they required to meet La Liga's criteria.

Barcelona have now confirmed that they ended the most recent financial year with a profit of €98m (£85.9m), as well as being in a position to forecast an increase to that figure for 2022-23.

A club statement read: "The Board of Directors has approved the budget for the 2022-23 season which includes an operating income budget of 1.255 billion euros, with a profit forecast of 274 million euros.

"At the end of the previous season, the board closed the 2021-22 financial year with a turnover of 1.017 billion euros and a profit of 98 million euros."

With Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, Hector Bellerin and Marcos Alonso joining Christensen, Kessie and Kounde in moving to Camp Nou, Barcelona have been able to enjoy a near faultless start to the new domestic campaign.

Sixteen points have been collected from a possible 18 in La Liga, keeping the club in close proximity to champions and rivals Real Madrid who have a 100% record.

As well as netting 18 times during those matches, Barcelona have conceded just one goal, that strike coming during the early stages of their second fixture at Real Sociedad.

However, Barcelona currently face a battle to progress in the Champions League after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich last week, leaving Xavi's side level on points with Group C rivals Inter Milan ahead of their double-header after the international break.
