Third-place Barcelona welcomed in-form Espanyol to Camp Nou on Sunday night looking to secure the win that would have moved them to within three points of La Liga leaders Real Madrid.
Barcelona led 1-0 at the interval courtesy of a 18th-minute strike from Luis Suarez, who found a route past Diego Lopez after being released by a terrific pass from Andres Iniesta.
Suarez then scored his second in the 67th minute, before Jordi Alba made it 3-0 less than 60 seconds later. Espanyol had one back in the 79th minute through David Lopez, but Barcelona then scored a fourth late on through Lionel Messi.
