Andre Gomes has withdrawn from the Portugal squad after suffering a thigh injury during his national team's 5-0 friendly win over Gibraltar on Thursday night.

The Barcelona midfielder had been in line to start Portugal's opening 2018 World Cup qualifier against Switzerland on Tuesday night, but will now not play a part after picking up a muscular problem.

Head coach Fernando Santos has called Porto midfielder Andre Andre into his squad as a replacement for Gomes, who will now return to Barcelona to begin treatment.

European champions Portugal are also without skipper Cristiano Ronaldo after the Real Madrid forward picked up a knee problem in the final of Euro 2016 earlier this summer.
