Arsenal edged out Chelsea 1-0 at Wembley Stadium to win the Community Shield for a second season in succession.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's first-half strike proved enough for the Gunners to overcome their London rivals.
Chelsea improved in the final 30 minutes after a sluggish opening hour, but they could not muster any real clear-cut chances to see the contest pass them by.

The Gunners will be aiming to end their barren run against last season's Premier League champions ahead of the new campaign, just 64 days after lifting the FA Cup at this very ground.
1.02pmBoth sides have been backed heavily to fight it out for the top-flight crown once more this term, with this afternoon's meeting potentially providing us some further insight into how preparations have gone so far this summer.
1.04pmThere is plenty to get through between now and kickoff, including an in-depth look at both sides' transfer dealings to date (spoiler: there's not been a great deal of movement from either), and a glance at the season ahead which is shaping up to be a real classic.
1.06pmOn the face of it, Arsenal will come into this afternoon's match with the momentum following an impressive pre-season to date. A statement of that sort is usually followed up by the "you can't read much into pre-season results" line, but regardless of the level of competitiveness there is plenty to be positive about from a Gunners' perspective.
1.08pmIn fact, Arsene Wenger's men have claimed two trophies already this summer - the Asian Premier League and the equally as glamorous Emirates Cup. The emergence of certain youngsters has also been a huge plus for the Gunners faithful, with this afternoon's match likely to provide a further step in the development of the likes of Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Alex Iwobi.

In all, it's four wins from four senior games for the North London outfit ahead of the final dress rehearsal later today.
1.14pmChelsea have had far more of a mixed bag of results, however. An opening-game 4-2 defeat against a second-string New York Red Bulls side was a bad way to kick things off, with Jose Mourinho suggesting that his side were perhaps struggling from fatigue in the Big Apple.
1.16pmBack-to-back draws in normal time against Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona followed during the the Blues' tour of the United States, while there is still one more friendly to come against Fiorentina later this week. That clash at Stamford Bridge in midweek has angered some traditionalists, who believe that the Community Shield should be the season curtain-raiser, rather than just another fixture in a congested summer programme.
1.18pmWhile he may not admit it, you get the sense that Mourinho has not been all that pleased with the way things have gone during the off-season. The Portuguese did openly state that he wants further options in defence, which is no real surprise when considering the West Londoners only actually have five senior options to choose from at the back.
1.20pmMourinho has brought in just the two players this summer in all - Radamel Falcao and Asmir Begovic. Both are essentially like-for-like replacements, with Petr Cech making a high-profile move to Arsenal and club legend Didier Drogba departing for a final swansong Stateside.
1.22pmFalcao's season-long switch to Stamford Bridge is arguably the most intriguing of this transfer window so far. The Colombian forward was prolific at each of his previous clubs, and was arguably the finest striker in world football just a couple of years back. He has yet to find his groove since rushing back from a nasty injury, however, which was underlined by the four goals scored in 29 appearances at Manchester United last season.
1.24pmTime is still on Falcao's side, of course, and with former Atletico Madrid teammate Diego Costa at his side we could witness a real transformation over the coming months. Mourinho will sure hope so, anyway, because with Costa's dodgy hamstrings continuing to flare up during pre-season only Loic Remy can provide further attacking threat.
1.26pmRadamel Falcao scored just four goals in 29 appearances for Manchester United last season, but Jose Mourinho is confident that the striker can regain his form at Stamford Bridge:

1.28pmArsenal have also kept the spending at a minimum, although the one big-name player they have brought in - Petr Cech - will no doubt truly strengthen the starting lineup. The Czech shot-stopper had been linked with the Gunners for the best part of a year, but it still came as a little surprise to see him sign on the dotted line after 11-successful seasons in West London.
1.30pmThat is not to say Arsenal do not need strengthening elsewhere, particularly after falling well short of the title last season. The 12-point gap on eventual winners Chelsea was largely down to the Gunners' poor start to the campaign, which saw them struggle to find any momentum until they were essentially out of the title race.
1.32pmThere is also the small matter of other side's strengthening, too. Manchester United appear to have made some shrewd signings, bringing the likes of Matteo Darmian, Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger to the club during the summer months - each of whom are likely to go straight into the starting lineup.
1.34pmManchester City have also spent big to snatch Raheem Sterling from rivals Liverpool, who themselves have strengthened in every area. So a five-pronged title race could potentially be on the cards next season, making every last signing between now at 5pm on September 1 vital in the grand scheme of things.
1.36pmDID YOU KNOW? Chelsea have not conceded against Arsenal in over eight hours of play. You have to go back some 482 minutes to find the last time the Gunners breached their rivals' net, which they will be looking to rectify at Wembley this afternoon.
1.38pmOf course, you cannot mention Arsenal vs. Chelsea these days without throwing both managers into the mix. The Wenger-Mourinho rivalry is as infamous as any other in Premier League history, with the Portuguese helping to fill the void left by Sir Alex Ferguson. It is an extremely one-sided rivalry, though - Mourinho not losing a single one of the 13 meetings between the pair.

1.42pmMourinho has repeatedly taken swipes at his opposite number, claiming that Wenger has continued to underperform at Arsenal when taking into account the money he has spent. The Portuguese even suggested that the Frenchman does not know how to set up his teams to get the better of Chelsea, which is difficult to argue against when looking at the 13-game run without a win.

Then comes one of the Premier League's defining fixtures as the Blues travel to the Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City. Games against West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace follow, so it could be a difficult opening month for the West Londoners.

1.54pmReports have emerged this afternoon suggesting that Jack Wilshere could be absent for Arsenal, having picked up a knock in training. That will come as a huge blow for the Gunners if true, considering the Englishman was targeting an injury-free campaign at the Emirates Stadium this term.
1.56pmAlexis Sanchez will also be missing from the Arsenal attack line following his prolonged summer break. The Chilean international was a real revelation in his debut campaign in North London, capped by a stunner here in the FA Cup final, but his Copa America exploits will see him miss out for the time being.
1.58pmIt will also be interesting to see how many of the new summer signings start. Petr Cech will almost certainly feature from the off, while Radamel Falcao could be used for Chelsea. Asmir Begovic is likely to have to make do with a place on the bench, though, which is to be expected for large parts of this campaign in truth.

2.04pmSo no Diego Costa for Chelsea, then, which is of course a big blow for the reigning Premier League champions. The Brazilian-born Spain international picked up a hamstring injury on the club's tour of the US last week, with Mourinho clearly not in the mood to take any risks.
2.06pmIn fact, Mourinho has confirmed that Diego Costa will not play a part this afternoon due to a "discomfort in his hamstring". That puts an awful lot of pressure on summer recruit Radamel Falcao, who will have to hit the ground running this term. He has been left on the bench from the start, with Loic Remy providing a more than capable understudy up top.
2.08pmThere is a real sense of familiarity about this Chelsea starting lineup, which is not necessarily such a bad thing when you're coming off the back of a title-winning season. Former Gunner Cesc Fabregas starts alongside Nemanja Matic in the holding midfield position, with Ramires on the right and Willian behind the lone striker.
2.10pmLosing top-scorer Costa is a blow, but Chelsea can still rely on the brilliance of Eden Hazard out on the left. The Belgium international claimed a clean sweep of the domestic awards last season, so he will be keen to hit the ground running once more at Wembley.
2.12pmOscar, Juan Cuadrado and Victor Moses all provide further attacking options from the bench should Mourinho require them, meanwhile, as the Blues set themselves out in a 4-2-3-1 formation. John Terry, as ever, leads the side out this afternoon.

2.16pmThe big talking point in terms of the Arsenal team news is the fact that - as widely expected - Petr Cech starts against his former side. Cech spent 11 trophy-laden seasons at Stamford Bridge, playing some 494 games for the Blues during that time, before making a £10m switch across London earlier this summer.
2.18pmFurther up the field and there is a real sense of deja vu from the FA Cup final as Theo Walcott is selected ahead of Olivier Giroud in attack. The England international has made no secret in recent years that he sees himself in that central striking role and, fresh on the back of signing a new deal, he has been given another chance to thrive in that position.
2.20pmAs mentioned a little earlier, there is no Jack Wilshere for Arsenal due to a knock he is thought to have picked up in training. Elsewhere, Hector Bellerin occupies the right-back berth ahead of Mathieu Debuchy, while Nacho Monreal starts on the opposite flank.
2.22pmIn terms of the Gunners' back-up options, they have the experience of Mikel Arteta and Olivier Giroud to choose from, as well as the youthful exuberance of Alex Iwobi. Kieran Gibbs, Gabriel Paulista, Damian Martinez and Debuchy are also on the bench.

— The FA (@FA) August 2, 20152.26pmRight, well now that we have taken a look at the team news it is probably a good time to set the scene a little more for the 93rd FA Community Shield, which pits together the winners of last season's FA Cup and Premier League.
2.28pmGoing back to the turn of the decade, this accolade has been claimed by Manchester United three times, Manchester City and most recently Arsenal 12 months ago. The Gunners saw off Manchester City 3-0 here to kick their season off with a bang, but they failed to push on in the early months of the Premier League season.
2.30pmIt just goes to show that, despite having an additional honour on your CV, winning the Community Shield does not necessarily pave the way for further success. In fact, you have to go back to 2010 to find the last time a team that won this annual curtain-raiser went on to lift the Premier League trophy.
2.32pmIf recent history is anything to go by, then Chelsea come into this contest as favourites. That is because the FA Cup winners have won the Community Shield just once in the last five years. It should be mentioned, however, that the team to break that chain was Wenger's men 12 months ago.
2.34pmChelsea, meanwhile, have gone on to win the top-flight crown each of the last two times (2005, 2009) that they have reigned supreme at Wembley in this competition. A good omen for the Blues, but one that essentially counts for little once that first ball is kicked.
2.36pmPREVIOUS MEETINGS! Wenger's poor record against Mourinho - no win in 13 previous meetings - has already been mentioned, but what about the overall record between the sides in recent times? Chelsea have gone eight games without defeat against the Gunners; the last of which came in a goalless draw at the Emirates Stadium at the back end of last season.
2.38pmThat stalemate in North London was met with cries of "boring, boring Chelsea" you may remember, but it was a result that confirmed the inevitable as the Blues stormed to the title. It was a different story in the two sides' only previous meeting in this competition, though, as Arsenal claimed a 2-1 victory back in 2005.
2.40pmCesc Fabregas, now at Chelsea of course, was a goalscorer that day for Arsenal. The Spaniard proved to be a key player in the Blues' run to the title last season, despite dropping from his top level in the closing months of the season. More of the same will be required this afternoon as he takes his place alongside Nemanja Matic in midfield.
2.42pmDID YOU KNOW? Arsenal have featured 21 times in the Community Shield, lifting the trophy outright on 12 occasions. Chelsea, on the other hand, have triumphed in four of their 11 outings in the season curtain-raiser.

Goals would be nice this afternoon, of course, and with 19 in the last five Community Shield fixtures I may just get my wish. Arsenal have had the better pre-season, which may just be telling, so I'll back the Gunners to claim a 2-1 win.
2.54pmBoth teams are now out on the field and the pre-match anthems are over and done with. Chelsea have named a strong looking starting lineup from the off today, as too have Arsenal who are seeking back-to-back triumphs in the Community Shield.
2.57pmThere is a fantastic atmosphere building around Wembley now, which turns up a notch as the big screen shows Petr Cech going through his final stretches. He is not the only one facing his former side today, of course, with Fabregas starting for Chelsea.
2.59pmArsenal will be playing this first half facing the sun, which is a big disadvantage for new shot-stopper Cech. Chelsea are about to get us underway at Wembley.
1 minKICKOFF! Right from the off Arsenal win the ball off their opponents high up the field, before mounting an attack which ends with Courtois punching clear.
3 minChelsea are enjoying more of the ball in these early stages, knocking it around the back and into midfield. Arsenal, much like we witnessed just a couple of seconds in, are doing well to win back possession.
5 minMatic goes on a powerful run down the left flank, but is unable to pick out a teammate at the end of his burst. Fabregas looks to be playing behind Remy, with Ramires in the middle alongside Matic.
7 minTerry makes a vital sliding challenge to deny Walcott breaking clear. The Arsenal man is playing in a lone striker role this afternoon, which is a big confidence boost for him heading into the new campaign.
9 minAn interesting one for the referee as former Arsenal star Fabregas goes down inside the box. The Spaniard appeared to get his foot to the ball ahead of Mertesacker, before the German clattered into him. It was a clash of bodies more than anything else, and in fairness Fabregas barely appealed.
11 minIt has taken 11 minutes but Chelsea appear to have moved out of first gear. Remy has been given the nod over summer signing Falcao this afternoon, and it was he who got into an advanced position to win his side a corner. The resulting set piece looked awkward for Cech to get to, but the whistle had already been blown.
13 minNot the liveliest of starts to the contest in truth, which could be a case of both sides weighing each other up. Hazard has managed to get on the ball a little more over the past couple of minutes which is always a positive sign from a Chelsea perspective.
15 minRemy will be looking to make a point today, particularly with Costa now a doubt for the season opener. He is constantly looking to get behind the Arsenal backline, but so far to no avail.
17 minMonreal looks to get forward down the left, taking out two covering Chelsea players in the process. Cazorla and Ozil have yet to get in the game, and the Blues were quick on the pair of them when the ball entered the box.
19 minThat collision I mentioned a couple of minutes ago between Willian and Cahill has had a lasting effect on the Englishman. He appeared to clatter his head against the turf, which has led to his nose streaming with blood.
21 minBoth Cahill and Ozil, the latter of whom also required treatment, are okay to continue. We have still yet to see a single chance in this season curtain-raiser at Wembley.
23 minSAVE! We have lift-off of sorts at Wembley, as Walcott flicks a header goalwards. Courtois easily dealt with it right down the middle, but credit to the Arsenal forward for testing the Chelsea stopper.
24 minGOAL! ARSENAL 1-0 CHELSEA (OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN)
25 minIt is a superb, thumping finish from Oxlade-Chamberlain to give Arsenal the lead. Their goalscoring drought against Chelsea, which had stretched more than eight hours, has come to an end. Walcott worked the ball wide to his compatriot, who cut inside and drilled into the top corner with his left boot.
27 minIt is hard to say either side deserved the lead following a slow start to things, but credit to Arsenal for upping the tempo. They now appear to have a spring in their step, as Remy again gets flagged for offside.
29 minOzil attempts to slip the ball through to Ramsey, but it is well cut out. Up the other end Ivanovic sees his cross cleared away with relative ease. Certainly more lively now compared to the opening quarter of the contest.
31 minCan the Gunners now push on and find a second?

A cross from Willian looked to cause danger in the middle, but Arsenal cleared their lines in the end. The Blues kept up the pressure, however, and in the next wave of play Ramires curled an effort a yard wide of goal.
35 minChelsea have been on top over the past five minutes or so, without asking any questions of Cech between the sticks. "Boring, boring Chelsea" come the chants from the red half of this famous ground.
37 minCHANCE! Best opportunity of the match so far for Chelsea falls to midfielder Ramires. Remy this time did remain on side and, having drifted into a wide position, he looked up and provided a fine cross for his teammate just five yards or so from goal. Ramires could only head over the target when left unmarked, though.
39 minAn awkward one for Chelsea as the ball bounces around inside the area. Ramsey then picked out the side-netting with what appeared to be a miscued cross. An end-to-end feel to things, but this game has yet to hit top gear.
41 minCech's easy afternoon continues as he collects Fabregas's hopeful cross into the box. Chelsea will really need to step things up after the restart if they are to peg back their London rivals.
43 minSuperb one-touch play from Arsenal, which culminated in Oxlade-Chamberlain bursting through on goal. The goalscorer just overhit the ball slightly which forced him to dink it across goal rather than take on a shot, but Ivanovic headed clear before earning his side a welcome free kick.
45 minFabregas's free kick was right on the mark in a central position, but the ball just about evaded the head of Ivanovic. The Blues just have not done enough to find a way through during the opening 45 minutes, with just seconds to go before the interval.
45+1 minHALF TIME: ARSENAL 1-0 CHELSEA
3.49pmReferee Anthony Taylor blows the whistle to signal the end of the opening 45 minutes. It was not the greatest half of football this stadium has ever witnessed, but enough talking points for us to go through nonetheless.
3.52pmIt really was a slow burner at Wembley, with both sides struggling to create an opening of any note up until Walcott's headed attempt after 23 minutes. That came just 60 seconds or so before Oxlade-Chamberlain opened the scoring with a superb bullet strike into the top corner.
3.54pmThat was Arsenal's first goal against their London rivals in 506 minutes of action, which just goes to show the domination Chelsea have enjoyed in this fixture in recent times. Ramires really should have levelled things up eight minutes before the break, though, only to send his free header over the bar.

48 minPositive enough start from Chelsea, with Willian swinging in a low cross which Cech got down well to collect. Walcott had lost the ball earlier in that attacking move.
50 minFalcao, sporting a new haircut these days, certainly looks up for it. This is a huge season for the once-prolific striker, so a goal today really would put him on his way.
52 minCosta is watching on from the stands this afternoon, having had to sit this one out through that tight hamstring of his. It's hard to see what difference he would have made so far in fairness, because the service into the frontline has been pretty much non-existent.
54 minCHELSEA SUB: Oscar has come on for Ramires as Mourinho again looks to change things around. Chelsea still not able to find the heights they hit so often last season.
56 minSHOT! Oscar, on the field for just a couple of minutes, finds himself in some space around 25 yards from goal and opts to take on the shot. His effort was well wide in the end, however, sparking further cheers from one half of Wembley.
58 minA little over 30 minutes left to play but still no real improvement from Chelsea. They have been underwhelming so far and, while Arsenal have barely hit the heights, it is the Gunners who are currently sitting happy on a slender lead.
60 minFalcao was so very nearly in on goal, only for Koscielny to get across well to cut out a ball over the top. A sign perhaps that Chelsea are about to up things, as Willian sees a shot from range blocked away.
62 minCHANCE! The best move we have seen from Chelsea so far today, as Fabregas superbly plays in Hazard. The PFA Player of the Year was in on goal, albeit it at a slightly tight angle, but he could only smash over the bar when put under pressure by Koscielny.

72 minCHANCE! Just as Chelsea were beginning to knock on the door, the Gunners spring a strong counter-attack which ends with Giroud firing over from eight yards out. Zouma is now on for the recently-booked Azpilicueta.
74 minChelsea can smell blood, it seems. They are continuing to probe away and certainly look much stronger now than they did for the first hour of the contest. Zouma is the latest to test Cech with a header from a central position, which lacked any sort of power.
