Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes insists that he is "really happy" at Pittodrie and is glad to put speculation linking him to the Rangers job to one side.

Derek McInnes has reiterated that he was tempted by the Rangers job, but "was not prepared" to turn his back on Aberdeen after building a strong rapport with supporters.

The 46-year-old was made the subject of an official approach by the Dons' Scottish Premiership rivals on Tuesday afternoon following weeks of speculation.

Despite his links to Rangers, where he spent five years during his playing days, McInnes informed his bosses that he wanted to remain at Pittodrie for the time being.

Speaking publicly about the decision for the first time, the former Bristol City manager told Red TV: "I had something to consider... but I feel that I wasn't prepared to walk away just yet. I'm really happy here as everybody knows and I wasn't prepared to tarnish relationships I've built over the last wee while.

"Since the approach was made on Tuesday, we quickly got it put to bed yesterday. We want to get back to normal practice and we've tried to be as normal and professional as possible throughout it [the speculation]."

Rangers announced on Thursday evening that Graeme Murty will remain in temporary charge until the New Year, as their search for Pedro Caixinha's successor goes on.
