Jordan Henderson: 'Liverpool must respond to Everton setback'

Henderson: 'We must respond to setback'

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson talks up his side's ability to put disappointing results quickly behind them, as they prepare for the visit of West Bromwich Albion.

Jordan Henderson has admitted that Liverpool's 1-1 draw against Everton was "a kick in the teeth", but has backed his side to quickly return to winning ways.

The Reds dominated proceedings in last weekend's Merseyside derby at Anfield, squandering a number of good chances to double their advantage before the Toffees struck to rescue a point.

Liverpool have a chance to put that result behind them when they play host to West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday evening, and skipper Henderson is confident that his teammates have the ability to respond with all three points.

"As a team we take collective responsibility for not finishing the job. It wasn't an individual or any single moment," he wrote in This is Anfield. "We were out there together and we had the power to affect the outcome and in the end the result is the result.

"But I think we've shown this season and in the previous seasons that when we suffer a setback - or in this case a kick in the teeth - we have the personalities to bounce back and quickly. Kick in the teeth is an apt description, because that's what it felt like.

"At full time the result hurt, it wasn't a pleasant feeling. With the benefit of perspective the performance was very good and the result not a disaster although clearly not what we wanted or deserved. The key now is to react in the right way. We did it after Spurs and we did it after Sevilla.

"We have to do it again. On those previous occasions this season we've taken the knock and responded by getting back on the front foot in the games that followed. Hopefully tonight we can show we have that ability again and keep this good run of form going."

Liverpool have gone 14 games without defeat at Anfield in all competitions and are unbeaten in their last eight league games against West Brom.
