Venus Williams powers past Carla Suarez-Navarro by a scoreline of 7-6(3) 6-4 to earn a place in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon for the first time since 2010.

Venus Williams has reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon for the first time since 2010 by overcoming Carla Suarez Navarro on No.1 Court.

The American was forced to a tie-break in the first set by the Spaniard but managed to clinch it 7-3, while the second set was a more straightforward affair as she took it 6-4 to win the match.

Williams last won the title at the All England Club in 2008 and has endured some lean years of late, reaching the fourth round last year but losing in the third round the year before.

The five-time champion will play Kazakhstan's Yaroslava Shvedova in the last eight.
