Serena Williams reaches the quarter-finals of Wimbledon after surviving an early scare to thrash Russia's Svetlana Kuznetsova 7-5 6-0 on Monday.

Serena Williams has advanced to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon after surviving an early scare to thrash Svetlana Kuznetsova 7-5 6-0 on Monday afternoon.

The world number one raced into a 3-1 lead in the first set but she then found herself 5-4 down to bring up break point, although she managed to seal the set in the end.

Kuznetsova had put up a fight in the opening stages but the second set was a different matter altogether as Williams stepped up her game and blew her opponent away by winning eight games in a row to advance to the next round.

Up next to face Williams is Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
