Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas was pleased with his side's performance against Watford at Vicarage Road on Sunday.

Spurs got the better of the Championship side 1-0 in a pre-season friendly, thanks to a Jermain Defoe goal on 55 minutes.

Despite the narrow win, Villas-Boas was satisfied with his players' display in the second-half.

"There wasn't a lot of emotion in the game, it was quiet for both teams and not lots of chances," said the Portuguese. "The second half was better for everyone.

"The reaction in the second half was good, the boys did well. Physically we are achieving what is normally a Premier League standard and that's what we want.

"A couple of lads did extremely well. Defoe put in a strong performance, Walker came on in the second half and improved the dynamic of the game; Vertonghen as well, on his build up play. Generally, I'm happy with everyone. Training has been intense and this was like another training session."

Tottenham will begin their Premier League campaign with an away game against Newcastle United on Saturday, August 18.
