Andy Murray says that winning Olympic gold and silver medals on Sunday helped create the best week of his life.

Andy Murray has said that his Olympic experience has been the best week of his life after claiming two medals on Sunday.

Murray played faultlessly to beat Roger Federer in straight sets and claim gold in the men's singles, held at Wimbledon.

The Scot then emerged on centre court an hour later to partner Laura Robson in the mixed doubles final.

A tie-break defeat to Max Mirnyi and Victoria Azarenka could not dampen Murray's spirits as he added a silver to his medal haul to cap a memorable day.

He told BBC Sport: "It took about five or six days for Wimbledon to get out of my system. I spoke to my coach a few days after and he said I played a really good match.

"With the Olympics coming up it was perfect timing as I got pretty much straight on the practice court. I was desperate to do well here. I didn't expect to do as I did today but it has been unbelievable. It has been the best week of my life."

The 25-year-old helped take Great Britain's tally of gold medals to 16 after a superb weekend for British athletes at London 2012.
