Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom: 'World record proves I can swim under pressure'

Sarah Sjostrom says that she has proven that she can swim under pressure after breaking her own world record to win the 100m butterfly final at the Worlds in Russia.

Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom has claimed that breaking her own world record in the 100m butterfly final at the World Championships in Kazan proves that she can perform under pressure.

The 21-year-old lowered her time by a hundredth of a second to secure a gold medal in 55.64s on Monday.

"My plan was to break the world record in the semi-finals because there is always more pressure in the final," Sjostrom told The AP. "So I'm very happy that I could show myself that I could swim even with all this pressure."

Denmark's Jeanette Ottesen clocked 57.05s to claim silver, while Lu Ying of China snatched the bronze medal in a time of 57.48s.
