Duncan Scott set a new national record to storm to the men's 400m individual medley title at the British Swimming Championships at Ponds Gorge.

The six-time Olympic medallist clocked a time of 4:09.18 on Thursday - shattering the previous record of 4:09.62 set by Max Litchfield back in 2017.

Prior to the British Championships, Scott had only set a new personal best of 4:15.44 in March and has now added the 400m IM to his British records alongside the 200m IM (1:55.28) and 100m freestyle (47.87).

"It's the first one I've done, with some good preparation and it's good to get an gauge of where I'm at. I knew I'd be around that but I'm happy with that," Scott told British Swimming after the race.

"This is the year after the Olympics so I'm looking to try out different events for long course. I really enjoy testing myself in different events."

Brodie Williams took the silver medal with a time of 4:14.69, while third-placed Jacob Greenow was nearly four seconds behind with 4:18.41.
