London 2012 shotgun champion and British hopeful mistaken for illegal whale hunters

London 2012 shotgun champion Peter Wilson is mistaken for an illegal whale hunter in Peru.

London 2012 shotgun champion Peter Wilson has been accused of illegal whale hunting in Peru, having travelled to the country for the World Championships.

Wilson flew to Lima to help 15-year-old British junior James Dedman, whom he has been coaching for four months, but the youngster's shotgun was seized at customs.

"They opened the gun up and the man said, 'You're illegal whale hunters, aren't you?'" Wilson told BBC Sport.

"He insisted we were illegal whale hunters and set about reading us our rights in Peruvian."

Wilson was able to negotiate with officials through an interpreter and managed to get himself and Dedman released after several hours of debate. However, Dedman's shotgun still remains impounded in customs.
