England head coach Eddie Jones urges stand-in captain Owen Farrell to put in an aggressive performance when his side take on France in the Six Nations.

England head coach Eddie Jones has urged stand-in captain Owen Farrell to be aggressive in his performance against France on Saturday.

England currently sit five points behind leaders Ireland in the Six Nations standings following a 25-13 defeat at the hands of Scotland in their last outing.

Farrell will lead his country for the first time when they visit the Stade de France this weekend, but Jones has urged the 26-year-old to focus on his own performance first and foremost.

"His first job is to be the best player on the field," the Australian told BBC Sport. "For him to be the best player on the field he needs to be aggressive and he needs to be in their face. That is one of the best attributes of his play. He is an aggressive, in-your-face type player.

"Owen is no-nonsense and just gets on with it. He knows what he wants to do, he knows what the team need to do and he is quite direct in communicating that.

"We know he is a straight-shooter. He's up front and an intense player, but he has added a tactical understanding to his game, and his work off the field with the players has been very impressive."

The Saracens playmaker will deputise for injured Dylan Hartley in Paris.
