The Epsom Derby, Britain’s richest flat horse race, is set to run this weekend on Saturday, June 7, 2025. Held at the historic Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, this prestigious Group 1 flat race brings together the finest three-year-old thoroughbreds competing over a mile and a half, with the winning connections set to take home an incredible £918,702.

City of Troy wins Epsom Derby on 1 June 2024

Derby Day at Epsom Downs features a full slate of races, culminating in the main event. Gates open at 11:00 AM, with the first race commencing at 1:00 PM. The provisional race schedule is as follows:

1.00pm: The Princess Elizabeth Stakes (Group 3)

1.35pm: The Betfred Diomed Stakes (Group 3)

2.10pm: The Betfred 3YO 'Dash' Handicap Stakes

2.45pm: The Aston Martin 'Dash' Handicap Stakes (Heritage Handicap)

3.30pm: The Betfred Derby (Group 1)

4.15pm: The Encore Lifestyle Northern Dancer Handicap Stakes

5:00pm: The Hong Kong Jockey Club World Pool Lester Piggott Handicap Stakes

5.40pm: The JRA Tokyo Trophy Handicap Stakes

The 2025 field features 19 runners, making it one of the most competitive line-ups in recent years. Leading the charge is the powerful partnership of jockey Ryan Moore and trainer Aidan O’Brien, aiming for their third consecutive win after successes with Auguste Rodin (2023) and City of Troy (2024).

The Epsom Derby takes place on Saturday 7 June, with the main race - The Betfred Derby - scheduled to get underway at 3:30pm.



How to Watch the Epsom Derby on TV

Viewers can catch the full day’s action live on ITV1, with coverage beginning at 12:45 PM. Subscribers to Racing TV can also watch full coverage across the entire Epsom Festival.

Additionally, BBC Radio 5 Live will air live commentary of the Derby and other key races throughout the weekend, including Friday’s Coronation Cup and Oaks.
