World Cup ticket sales down in Europe
Data from FIFA suggests that World Cup 2018 ticket sales are down in Europe compared to the 2014 event.

World Cup ticket sales are down in Europe compared to the 2014 tournament in Brazil, new figures suggest.

Data released by FIFA confirms that more than 1.6m tickets were snapped up in phase two of the selling process for the Russia event, down by more than half a million from four years ago, reports Sky Sports News.

Fans from 10 countries are said to have purchased more tickets than England supporters, including nations which did not qualify for the finals, such as the USA and India.

The majority of sales were in host nation Russia, which picked up 216,134 during the phase, with the USA in second on 16,462.

The only European country to make the top 10 was Germany, which will be backed by almost 6,000 travelling supporters so far.

Since ticket sales began last September, 30,711 have been allocated to England.
