Former Wales international Ched Evans begins his appeal against his rape conviction at the Court of Appeal.

Ched Evans's appeal against his conviction for rape has begun at the Court of Appeal today.

The 27-year-old was jailed for five years in 2012 after being found guilty of raping a 19-year-old woman in a hotel near Rhyl in Wales.

The 13-time Wales international was released from prison in 2014 having served half of his sentence, but has been unable to find a new club since.

Evans has maintained his innocence throughout the process, and will now have his appeal heard by a three-person panel of judges, headed by Lady Justice Heather Hallett.

The proceedings are scheduled to last until Wednesday.
