Amazon reportedly secures the UK rights to show 20 Premier League games per season from 2019-20.

Amazon has reportedly secured the rights to broadcast 20 Premier League matches per season from 2019-20.

Earlier this year the Premier League confirmed that Sky Sports and BT Sport had retained the rights to the lion's share of games, winning 128 and 32 games a season respectively, under a £4.464 billion deal.

The league failed to sell the rights to a further 40 games per season, however, after receiving lukewarm interest in the proposal, which will see four full rounds of midweek and bank holiday matches broadcast in their entirety.

According to The Telegraph, Amazon has now acquired the rights to half of those games and will stream them via its premium streaming service Amazon Prime.

The newspaper also claims that BT has secured the rights to the remaining matches and will therefore be able to show 52 games per season from next year.

A formal announcement on the deal is expected later today.
