Result: Great Britain's Gemma Gibbons exits European Games at second-round stage

Team GB's Gemma Gibbons crashes out of Baku 2015 in round two, with the Olympic silver medallist tasting defeat against Victoriia Turks at the Heydar Aliyev Arena.

Olympic silver medallist Gemma Gibbons has lost to Victoriia Turks at the round-of-16 stage in the women's -78kg judo event at the European Games.

The 28-year-old harboured strong hopes of matching her success of three years ago on home soil by claiming a podium finish in Baku, but she fell some way short of doing so in the second round.

Gibbons, who beat France's Madeleine Malonga with a waza-ari to progress through earlier today, was edged out in similar circumstances by Turks at the Heydar Aliyev Arena.

Ukrainian judoka Turks got the job done inside four minutes to set up a quarter-final meeting with Russian Federation's Anamari Klementina Velensek later today.
