Scottie Scheffler wins the third major title of his career with a wide victory to lift the US PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.

Scottie Scheffler has provided another reminder as to why he remains the best golfer in the world with a five-shot victory to win US PGA Championship.

When Rory McIlroy claimed the Masters last month, it left Scheffler with questions to answer at Quail Hollow, but defying a slow start to his final round and a resurgent Jon Rahm has seen him lift his third major title.

The world number one bogeyed three of his opening nine holes to see a three-shot lead evaporate, with Rahm the player to take advantage with three birdies between holes eight and 11.

However, a fourth birdie would not fall for the Spaniard, who went agonisingly close on more than one occasion, and his challenge ultimately petered out with a bogey on 16 and double bogey on 17.

That essentially ended the tournament as a contest with four holes remaining, with Scheffler also making birdie on the 15th to move five shots in front.

Although he would proceed to bogey the last, it mattered little as he secured the title a year on from being briefly arrested at this tournament 12 months ago.

Who were the best of the rest?

Harris English's round of 65 earlier in the day ultimately proved inspired to see him earn a share of second against the odds, joining Bryson DeChambeau and Davis Riley.

Taylor Pendrith, J.J. Poston and Jonathan Vegas finished in a tie for fifth, ahead of nine players who remarkably shared eighth position.

That included Rahm, who double-bogeyed the last hole, and the likes of Matthew Fitzpatrick and USA Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley.

McIlroy had to make do with a finish of 47th place after only posting a final-round 72.
