With internal scrutiny mounting and rivals pulling ahead, Ferrari is pressing ahead with its final major developments for the 2025 Formula 1 season.

At the Austrian Grand Prix, the team introduced its last major aerodynamic upgrade from Maranello’s wind tunnel, a revised floor for the SF-25.

Now, during a scheduled filming day at the Ferrari-owned Mugello circuit on Wednesday, the team will trial its long-anticipated new rear suspension, a major mechanical change expected to make its race debut next weekend at Spa-Francorchamps.

Despite the updates, Ferrari test driver and brand ambassador Marc Gene admits the Italian squad isn’t in the hunt for either title.

"I hope the fight between (Lando) Norris and (Oscar) Piastri continues until the very end," Gene told Diario Sport. "Because they will be the two fighting for the title."

He also made clear that Ferrari’s immediate goal lies elsewhere.

"We are fighting more with Mercedes and Red Bull," said the 51-year-old Spaniard.

"We are trying to secure second place in the constructors' championship, it's important for us. Although to do so we must work well as a team. At the moment we are doing well. Our drivers are giving their all."

Still, Ferrari’s season has fallen short of expectations, fuelling criticism at home and raising questions about the future of team principal Frederic Vasseur, whose contract is due to expire.

Looking ahead, much of Ferrari’s hope now rests on a strong transition to the sweeping new technical regulations coming in 2026.

"It's a very big change," Gene said of the upcoming rules reset.

As for 2025, it's been a year of adaptation, especially for seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton in his debut season with the Scuderia.

"Not only Hamilton," Gene pointed out. "All the drivers who have changed teams have had a bit of a time adapting to their new car.

"Especially noticeable has been the case of those who had been in a team for many years, like Lewis, who spent 12 years at Mercedes," he added.

"It's been a complicated year for him, although Austria was his best race, apart from the sprint that he won in China.

"The truth is that he has driven well. I have the feeling that he is adapting better and better to the car, but next year, this whole process of adapting to the team, to the driving, to our entire working method, will be over.

"It remains to be seen whether we can give him a competitive car, because no matter how confident we are, we can't know that," Gene concluded.
