Preview: Wolverhampton Wanderers vs. Burnley - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Premier League clash between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Burnley, including predictions, team news and lineups.

Wolverhampton Wanderers welcome Burnley to Molineux on Sunday as both sides look to get back to winning ways in the Premier League.

Although the home side beat Torino 3-2 on Thursday to move within touching distance of the Europa League group stages, they have drawn their two opening league games. Sean Dyche's side, by contrast, lost 2-1 to Arsenal last weekend after recording an impressive 3-0 win over Southampton in their opening match.

Nuno's men will be looking to build on their win in Turin and extend a nine-match unbeaten Premier League run when they host the Clarets on Sunday afternoon.

However, despite Wolves winning the last four top division matches played between the two at Molineux, they have only won one of the pair's last six meetings overall.

The home side look to be in for a tricky test on Sunday as they have often struggled to play as well against sides like Burnley, who are more than happy to let them dominate possession and force openings, as they do against the better sides when they have more opportunity to sit back themselves and attack on the counter.

Likewise, as Burnley found out last season, the Thursday-Sunday schedule can be incredibly gruelling and it is likely to take a toll on Nuno's squad selection come Sunday afternoon as they prepare for their eighth game in the space of 31 days.

Adama Traore impressed off the bench against United and starred against Torino but he is likely to be rested ahead of the return game against the Italian side on Thursday, with Irish full-back Matt Doherty expected to be restored in his place.

Burnley's lack of European football this season has appeared to make them both more organised defensively and effective going forward, as they showed against Arsenal when they were able to create a number of quality chances from set-pieces.

Ashley Barnes, who scored in that game to take him to three for the season and 12 for the calendar year, is likely to be central to Burnley's hopes of taking a good result back to Lancashire.

Likewise, the Clarets will also be looking to talented young winger Dwight McNeil, who has followed on from his breakthrough in the second half of last season to star in the club's opening two league games in this campaign.

Team News

Matt Doherty's recovery from the illness that kept him out of the Torino game should give Nuno an almost fully-fit squad to choose from for Burnley's visit.

Ruben Neves, who scored that excellent goal at Molineux on Monday, is expected to return to the side, as is central defender Ryan Bennett and Spanish wing-back Jonny.

Nuno may also opt to rest Mexican star striker Raul Jimenez ahead of their crunch Europa League playoff game, instead giving a first Premier League start to Patrick Cutrone.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche looks set to be in the position to name exactly the same team for the third league game in succession.

Steven Defour and Robbie Brady are still out injured, while Danny Drinkwater is more likely to make his Clarets debut in their Carabao Cup tie with Sunderland on Wednesday night.

Wolves possible starting lineup:
Patricio; Bennett, Coady, Boly; Doherty, Dendoncker, Neves, Gibbs-White, Jonny; Cutrone, Jota

Burnley possible starting lineup:
Pope; Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Pieters; Gudmundsson, Westwood, Cork, McNeil; Wood, Barnes

We say: Wolves 1-1 Burnley

Although it is hard to see the home side losing on Sunday afternoon, their repeated struggles against more defensively-minded sides could cost them all three points, as could their busy recent schedule.
