Javi Gracia "very happy" for Troy Deeney after returning to scoring ways

Javi Gracia says that he is "very happy" for Troy Deeney, who has earned Watford six points from their last two games thanks to his match-winning strikes.

Watford manager Javi Gracia has heaped praise on skipper Troy Deeney following his second match-winning strike in the space of a week.

The 29-year-old followed up his late winner against Everton with the only goal of the game against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon.

Deeney had previously waited all season to score from open play and has had to deal with a number of disciplinary problems on the field, most recently escaping FA action for his obscene gesture towards the crowd when netting against Chelsea from the penalty spot.

After seeing Deeney come to life of late, though, Gracia is happy to stick with his striker.

"Troy has scored two very important goals in two games, and I always say the captain is an important player on and off the pitch. I'm very happy for him," he told Sky Sports News.

"We got three important points in a tough game. It's not easy to win back-to-back home games, and I'm proud of the players. I'm very pleased for the supporters and we will try to do the same next week against Arsenal.

"I don't know what will happen in the future, but at the moment we are in a good place, are trying to enjoy it and improve day-by-day. It's the best mentality to help us to get three points."

Deeney, who has missed seven games through suspension this term, now has five league goals for the campaign.
