Watford defender Craig Cathcart claims that his side have not received enough credit for all but securing their Premier League status and reaching the FA Cup semi-finals.

Watford defender Craig Cathcart has claimed that his side have not been given enough credit for their performances this season.

The Hornets look certain to avoid relegation from the Premier League for the first time, with 11 points separating them from the drop zone, while they have also made it all the way to the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

However, Watford's achievements have been overshadowed by the likes of Leicester City, who have gone from relegation candidates to title favourites in a remarkable Premier League campaign.

"For teams that come up, the first thing they want to do is to stay in the Premier League and build from there," Cathcart told reporters.

"We probably haven't had the credit we deserve but that's just the way the season has been. Leicester have been unbelievable - the way they finished last year and have carried on this year.

"It's been a strange Premier League year, it's been more like the Championship the way each team has beat each other. Hopefully we'll show towards the end of the season that we deserve to be in the Premier League next season and build on it."

Watford, who have won just two of their 13 league games since Christmas, take on Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in their first match back after the international break.
