Forward Gareth Bale describes becoming Wales's new record goalscorer as "a massive honour", with the Real Madrid star scoring a hat-trick in the 6-0 win over China.

Gareth Bale has said that becoming the all-time record goalscorer for Wales is one of the biggest achievements of his career.

On Thursday, Wales recorded a 6-0 victory over China in Ryan Giggs's first game in charge, with Real Madrid star Bale netting a hat-trick.

The 28-year-old has now scored 29 goals for his country - one more than Dragons legend Ian Rush - and the forward has described setting a new mark as "a massive honour".

Bale is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "It is right up there, maybe as the best. I suppose when I was a little boy I never dreamed of being a record-breaker for Wales. It is a massive honour.

"I was not thinking about it, but now it has come it's an incredible honour and one of the best things I've achieved in my career. On a personal note it's great to break the record, but I could not have done it without my teammates."

Bale will hope to add to his record-breaking total when Wales face either Uruguay or the Czech Republic in the final of the China Cup on Monday.
