Sunderland manager David Moyes reserves special praise for Victor Anichebe after picking up his first league win in charge of the Black Cats.

Sunderland manager David Moyes has admitted that he had forgotten what it was like to smile having ended his wait for a Premier League victory this afternoon.

The Black Cats finally picked up their first league win of the season at the 11th time of asking courtesy of a come-from-behind victory over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, despite being forced to play more than half an hour with 10 men.

The win saw Sunderland move level on points with Swansea City in 19th, and Moyes reserved special praise for Victor Anichebe, who scored one and won the penalty that provided the winning goal.

"I'd nearly forgotten what it felt like to smile," he told reporters.

"I've always thought Victor has great ability, a lot more than people give him credit for. He's got a lot going for him - he doesn't always show it but he did today.

"I've got to say for 20 minutes after the red card we got battered, they missed two or three chances. But we've had a couple of games recently when things haven't gone for us. Sometimes you need a bit of fortune."

The victory was Moyes's first in the Premier League since April 2014 - a wait of 945 days.
