Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly optimistic that Christian Eriksen will follow in the footsteps of Dele Alli by committing his long-term future to the club.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly hopeful that Christian Eriksen will commit his long-term future to the club.

Spurs have been in talks with Eriksen's representatives over an extension to his current £70,000-a-week deal since last season, but the two parties are still yet to come to an agreement.

The likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona have been linked with moves for the Denmark international, who scored 14 goals and created 13 more across all competitions last season.

However, the Evening Standard reports that Spurs are optimistic about their chances of tying Eriksen down to a new deal, with his current contract due to expire in 2020.

Any extension is likely to at least double Eriksen's wages after Dele Alli also committed his long-term future to the club earlier this week in a deal which saw him become the club's second-highest earner behind Harry Kane.

Eriksen is one of a number of first-team players whose contracts expire within the next 20 months, alongside Mousa Dembele, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.
