Tottenham Hotspur reportedly near the signing of Celta Vigo midfielder Pape Cheikh Diop in a £9m deal.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly close to signing Celta Vigo midfielder Pape Cheikh Diop in a £9m deal.

The 19-year-old has been with Celta since 2013, and after representing the Spanish outfit's B team, the teenager made 16 La Liga appearances during the 2016-17 campaign.

It is understood that Spurs watched Diop in action during Celta's pre-season friendlies against Brentford and Burnley last month, and decided to make a move after a favourable report was returned.

According to Marca, Diop is expected to join Tottenham this week as the Premier League club prepare to boost their squad in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.

Diop, who had also been linked with a move to French side Lyon, was born in Senegal, but has represented Spain at Under-17 and Under-19 level.
