Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer believes that his Premier League goals record of 260 could be under threat from Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.

Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer has claimed that Harry Kane could break his record for the most goals scored in the Premier League.

Shearer hit 260 Premier League goals during his career with Southampton, Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle - still 66 more than Wayne Rooney, who is the next highest scorer in the competition's history.

The former England international no longer believes that Rooney will break his record, but conceded that it could be under threat from Tottenham Hotspur's Kane or Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero if they stay in the Premier League.

"I thought Wayne Rooney would manage or would come near to making it, but he seems to be moving further away, and now plays a more retracted role at Manchester United," he is quoted as saying by FourFourTwo Greece.

"Harry Kane has made a stunning start to his career in the Premier League. If he avoids injury and continues his career here rather than trying his luck abroad, he will have the opportunity.

"Sergio Aguero also plays for a strong and very aggressive team. But I think that the same question can be applied to him. Will he stay for the rest of his career in the Premier League?"

Kane already has 56 Premier League goals to his name at the age of 23, while the 28-year-old Aguero has 112.
